Chat with Religion
Privacy Policy
Last updated September 5, 2026 · How Chat with Religion handles your information.
1. What this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains how Chat with Religion handles information, including what we collect, why we use it, which providers process it, and how to request deletion.
2. Information you provide
We may receive the profile details you choose to enter, such as your name, denomination or tradition, goals, and personalization choices. If you upgrade an anonymous session, our authentication provider receives the email address and account identifiers needed to verify and maintain that account. Messages, selected figures, timestamps, and optional voice transcripts are processed to provide the conversation.
3. Information stored on your device
The current mobile app stores your profile, conversation history, and figure memories locally on your device so the app can load them without a network request. You can use Clear All Data in Profile to remove those local records. Deleting the app may also remove locally stored data according to your device settings.
4. Information processed by our services
When you send a message, the app sends the message, selected figure, and the minimum account or usage identifiers needed to our API. The API uses Supabase for authentication and account/session services, stores subscription and daily-usage state, and sends the conversation request to OpenRouter for model inference. Voice input is sent to OpenAI Whisper for transcription, and voice output text is sent to Fish Audio (through OpenRouter) for speech synthesis, with ElevenLabs as a fallback provider. Resend delivers our welcome and sign-in emails and receives the email address needed to send them. RevenueCat receives the app user identifier, product identifiers, and entitlement or transaction state so purchases can be verified. Apple or Google handles payment details; we do not receive your full payment card number.
5. Safety monitoring and moderation
To keep the service safe, messages you send, replies you receive, and text you submit for voice playback are checked by automated safety systems before or shortly after they are used. These checks run through OpenAI's moderation service. We normally store no message content. If a message is flagged as potentially harmful (for example sexual content, content involving minors, threats, or self-harm instructions), or if you report a message, we may retain a copy of that specific content — encrypted — together with categories, scores, and identifiers, so our team can review it, enforce our rules (including suspending accounts), and comply with legal reporting duties such as reporting apparent child sexual abuse or online enticement to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline as required by U.S. law. Flagged-content records are kept for at least one year when tied to such reports, and otherwise for up to about 90 days. Metadata without message content (such as which figure was used, timing, latency, and whether a message was blocked) is retained longer in aggregated form to operate and improve safety. You can report any message by pressing and holding it in the chat.
6. Analytics
We use PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand how the app is used: for example which figures are opened, how often messages are sent, and paywall views. These events are content-free — they never include message text. Each event carries only the figure identifier, event name, coarse properties, and a device identifier, which PostHog receives.
7. How we use information
We use information to provide and personalize Chat with Religion, generate replies and audio, enforce free and Premium limits, verify purchases, protect the service, detect and prevent abuse and unsafe content, respond to support requests and reports, understand reliability, comply with law, and keep users safe. We do not sell your personal information or use it for third-party advertising in the current app.
8. AI and provider choices
Chat replies are generated by GPT-5.6 Luna via OpenRouter. Provider retention and model-training practices can vary, so do not share sensitive information you would not want processed by those providers. OpenAI, Fish Audio, and ElevenLabs may process voice data as described in their current policies; the Fish Audio free tier may use request content to improve its models. We do not promise that a provider will retain data for a particular period; their current terms and privacy notices control their independent processing.
9. Sharing and legal requests
We share information with service providers only as needed to run the features above, and with Apple or Google to complete purchases. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect safety or rights, or to investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents — including reports to the NCMEC CyberTipline where we are legally required to make them. We do not share conversation content with advertisers.
10. Retention and deletion
Local profile, chats, and memories remain on your device until you clear them, remove them in the app, or uninstall the app. The Profile screen also offers Delete Account Permanently, which signs out the user and asks the server to delete the authenticated account and associated server records; device-keyed usage and subscription counters may require separate support handling. Safety records tied to encrypted flagged content follow the retention described in section 5, and content preserved because of a legal report may be retained as required by law even after account deletion. Authentication, usage, subscription, support, security, and provider records may otherwise be kept as long as reasonably necessary for the service, legal obligations, disputes, and fraud prevention. To request access, correction, portability, or deletion of account or server records, email support@chatwithreligion.org. We will verify the request and respond under applicable law.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the service, including authenticated API requests, server-side provider keys, and encryption of stored safety records. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so avoid putting passwords, payment-card details, or highly sensitive personal information into a chat.
12. Children and age
Chat with Religion is rated for users 13 and up and is intended for teens and adults; it is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us at support@chatwithreligion.org. Parents and guardians should supervise use by minors, especially conversations involving grief, sexuality, violence, or crisis.
13. International users and changes
Service providers may process information in countries other than where you live. We will use appropriate safeguards required by applicable law. We may update this policy as the app, providers, or laws change. We will post the new date above and provide additional notice when required.
